I see you've booked, we are going with Hampton Inn in the US this summer, stayed on one in Canada, it was spotless, had a nice free breakfast but had a kitchen area also, the one we've booked this year has a full kitchen area and a living room, with one bedroom off, for an extra $50 a night we could have had a 2 bed suite, we decided to save the money and let DD sleep on the sofa bed.:o
Is the bedroom off or accessible via a door ? We've still got 1 place to book for 3 nights and I've not really looked at Hampton Inns as they don't seem to have completely seperated bedrooms(s)

    Any chance of an Itin?

I've not been to Texas mainly 'cos I couldn't think of what to do for 14 dayes etc.

Only me and the missus so no kids to entertain.

If you sign up for the Holiday Inn credit card you'll get 20K points which can be a free night.

Sign up Mrs MTC onher own card  she'll get the 20K

For Hilton and Holiday Inn look at Flyertalk for how to get bonus points.

Using AA.com as the booking agent how long does it take for the miles to post and do they always post?

I need to add some miles to AA before July and have just got the Hilton card (again). I was a bit slow in getting another Citibank card and now they've stopped them!
    Hello blindman
This is what we're doing so far.
    4 nights Fort Worth
    4 nights San Antonio
    4 nights Corpus Christi
    3 nights Galveston
    1 night Houston.

When I was initially thinking of Texas, I to was a bit wary of being able to find enough things to keep us all happy. I needn't have worried. For a family holiday, the place is absolutely chocker with things to do. I'm not going to post them all here for you, as some/a lot/ most would be irrelevant for you. We're travelling in late March which is well off -peak for some places, but so far I've found at least 3 things to do, each day, at each place. Some are must do/big things e.g NASA @ Houston, USS Lexington @ Corpus Christi. Others are it would be nice to do, like the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Antonio. Plus things like beach combing, kite flying, beach fun etc, etc.

I'll look into the Holiday Inn card, but I'll have to be a touch wary as I'm quite card 'heavy' ATM. I'm off to have a butchers at Flyertalk later on .

As for how rapid AA.com are at posting the miles, I'll have to let you know. My first night booked via them is a week on Monday - it was paid up front and in non-refundable, so I wouldn't be surprised if I got credited with the miles sooner, rather than later, rather than having to actually stay the night and then wait for them to be posted. When I've stayed at Holiday Inn / Best Western places in the Uk, they seem to go in after about a month.

As far as i'm aware amerisuites are in the process of being changed to Hyatt Place (the one in Vegas was and the one near our office in Cincy). They are a single room. Seperate living area.

Hampton Inn & suites - Stopped in a suite in the keys and that was separate bedroom.
Embassy sutes are worth looking at. They have separate bedroom and 2 hour free drinks. Breakfasts there are far superior to Hamptons too

The one we have booked in Seattle has a door that closes, but you'd have to look at the one where you're going as they will all differ.

I've used Embassy Suites in the past and been VERY happy with them -- they appear to have a very similar approach to Homewood Suites. Are Homewood Suites aimed more at longer term stays, but they are quite happy with shorties ? & I'll agree with you regarding brekkies. Very nice

& thats the buggger for me. If I'm going somewhere, I'll do a scout about and get a list of oodles of hotels, and then its a PITA going through them one by one to find one that fits our criteria (that makes me sound like a right picky so and so, doesn't it :o) - whereas Homewood & Embassy Suites are ideal for us.

BTW, we're also quite partial to staying in B&bs for part of holidays as well. Sometimes a touch pricer, but a LOT more personal and we've got some good memories of people/places that we've stayed.

The best suites are Hamptons, not all have suites but most do.

I'll be in Texas this August and we are going for the annual North Texas Fair and Rodeo:

If your plans change look for the huge tent with a Union Jack flying from it, the smell of burned meat, music banging out and the worlds noisiest kids - Then see me sunbathing and pretending i don;t know anyone :)

Have a fantastic time - Texas is awesome!

Well, what can I say ? Homewood Suites suited our requirements perfectly, 100% in every possible way. To be able to tuck away the litle Cats in the bedroom and close the door, whilst we did our own stuff, was tremendous.
As with most (all ?) Hilton group Hotels, the price varies from place to place and day to day, but for US they represented excellant value for money in very nice surroundings **

** and that was without us taking advantage of the free welcome home dinner & drinks that was available Monday -Thursday.
