Help With Train Ticket

Hey Guy's

Have heard there are number of loopholes in booking trains but unfortuantly I can't find any. Here are my requirements Sunday 10th Jan Glasgow to Liverpool Lime Street preferably be in Liverpool for 14:00 at the very latest and return to Glasgow same night but can be anytime in the morning e.g 01:00. This is for 1 adult/1child but It's currently costing me £95 to book, so thought I'd ask if anyone knows of any cheaper railway sites I can check or alternative transport.

Thank you in advance.

All the sites will give you the same price provided you ask them the right question.

Check single fares if you haven't - they may be cheaper than a return

Get a family railcard for £26 - on the journey you are doing it will more than pay for itself. You can buy the tickets without it - but must have it when you board the train. Any staffed station will sell you one on the spot

If you have been looking at raileasy or the trainline, avoid their booking fee by using a train company website

Thanks for the help have tried single fares and all the sites you've mentioned so many times. At least with the railcard I'm saving £18 which is a great start , thanks.

You can get that down to £41.85 by splitting at Preston...

Dep Glasgow QS 09:37, arr Preston 11:56. Advance Singles £18.30.
Dep Preston 12:15, arr Liverpool LS 13:24. Off Peak Returns £9.10.
You can catch a later train from Preston if first train is delayed... Off Peak Return valid any train on Sunday.

Dep Liverpool LS at a suitable time for train out of Preston. Off Peak Returns already purchased.
Say, dep Liverpool LS xx:31, arr Preston xx:37. (1hr 6mins later)
Probably not a good idea to aim for a 5min connection at Preston. Best to allow 1hr 5min as Advance tickets must be used on the booked train.
Dep Preston 19:42, arr Glasgow QS 22:07. Advance Singles £14.45.
Or dep Preston 20:42, arr Glasgow QS 23:09. Advance Singles £14.45.
Or dep Preston 21:42, arr Glasgow QS 00:02. Advance Singles £14.45.

All info from East Coast Trains website.

N.b. prices quoted are the total for the two of you, with Railcard discount.
