I would visit your local citizens advice bureau to see what you are entitled to

If you are being made homeless by your landlord then the council usually have an obligation to house you somewhere. If you have made yourself voluntarily homeless you'll probably get less help from them. It can depend on other factors, such as age/situation etc.

    What is your situation?

The Local authority have a duty to give advice but not to provide housing.
Giving advice could be anything from rent deposit scheme to giving you a copy of the local paper with the private lettings in it - varies depending on where you live

What sort of tenancy do you have and how long have you had it?

i thought if you had children that the council had a duty to rehouse you ?
  • Not necessarily - what about intentionally homeless?

Intentionality can include rent arrears - depends on why and how they arose

Landlord eviction because he won't have a tenant on benefits wouldn't be intentional but then, what are the circumstances of the OP losing their job

sorry - I don't make the rules and it galls me to enforce them at times

Why can't you get local housing allowance? Are currently seeking employment and in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance? You might be best to also post on the benefits board.
