Poor credit threat

in Credit cards
Hello all, the other day i realised i had not paid my credit card bill so i promptly went online and did so.
I then called my cc company to see if i had incurred any charges and was told that i had (20 pound late payment fee).
I then told the guy on the phone that as these charges are not legally enforceable i would like to be refunded, at which point he insisted that the charge is legally enforceable but it was within his remit to refund half of the charge at the cost of my credit rating being adversely affected.
I accepted this but told him i would be taking it further.
Please help...where do I stand and how do i take this further?

It is now 'legal' to charge up to £12 as a late payment charge.
You have been refunded half and charged £10 - nothing to be done about it.
Your credit file will have been marked with a 'late payment' marker which could affect future credit applications.
You could have avoided all this by setting up a direct debit for the minimum monthly payment.
Bit silly really to tell someone that you were going to take it further and then come on here asking how - when it is all your fault!0 -
Well i thought that's what these chat forums were for...to help us lesser mortals with less knowledge of these things than yourself!!!0
