Child car seat cover-car insurance

Does anyone know of a list of insurers who (in line with RoSPA advice)replace child car seats in the event of an accident?
Although I have many quotes from comparison sites, I'm not enjoying phoning each company up to ask them! I'm also finding many companies don't actually know their policy on this issue...anyone else had the same problem?

I had a similar question actually so I'm glad you posted. I wanted to know if my child was hit by a car whether or not I could claim for their damaged clothes and shoes from household insurance.

If you're involved in an accident that has somehow mangled your child's car seat, I think getting it replaced would be the least of your worries. Your child's health would probably be critical...

Is it something that could be covered by household insurance?

Before you buy, check the wordings, but I have found this:

edit - ok, can't post a table of info!

Some big names providing full replacement (according to some data I have access to) are:

Aviva, BMW, Chubb, Churchill, CSIS, Direct Line, Edure, Frizzell, Halifax, Highway, Hiscox, Home and Legacy, LV=, Nationwide, Oak Underwriting, Privilege, Royal and Sun Allianz, Sheilas' Wheels, Tesco Bank, The Co-op, Zurich along with most of the motor manufacturers brand-assurance deals.

You will need to check exactly what circs they will replace and what limit.

Other providers will replace to an indicated limit, some of these only if there is evidence of damage: AXA, HSBC, Santander, Allianz, Groupama, Diamond

others only if there is evidence of it being damaged: Cornhill, AA,

Not quite sure if you are just having a dig at the op or not here? Regardless:

I took it that the OP is worried that if there was an accident, that was not too serious, that the child seat would be replaced regardless to put their mind at rest (in the same way that if you have a tumble on your cycle or a motorcycle crash you are mean't to chuck the helmet away as it could be next to useless if there is even minor damage). They are expensive things kiddy seats so fair enough to be concerned by it. Of course the childs safetly would be paramount to any parent's mind, so why not look for an insurer before a crash that will help you deal with the situation?

They are motoring accessories so might be excluded from a household policy.

If you are serious about the kids clothes question - yes it would be covered by household if you had personal posessions all risks, though they would not replace new for old but with a deduction for wear and tear! You would be better including it in your lawsuit against the driver.

A child car seat does not need to be mangled for it to be damaged and made ineffective (tiny cracks often can't be seen by eye) Also, a car seat can be in a car and subject to accident forces even when the child isn't. Virtually all car seat manufacturers advise you to replace car seats even after minor crashes.

Oh yes, and this. Yes, it is a common problem - it isnt the "company" but their lowly paid, unincentivised call center staff who don't know the policies, particullary with these kinds of details. Beleive me, it is a constant annoyance for those of us who are head office underwriters that can't understand why operations departments can't pursuade people on the phones to use the guides provided!
  • It's even more frustrating if you're trying to deal with a non-uk call centre when they don't understand what a 'child car seat' is!

Our 3 car seats would cost £450 in total to replace... more than the cost of most of our policy quotes so it's a major issue for me...not to mention the fact that I wouldn't want to be told to re-use car seats which had been involved in a minor accident which could still be unsafe.

Companies who do replace would be definitely get more business from other concerned parents if they advertised their policy re. car seats more clearly...rather than have us parents search about on forums for the info!!

    Thanks for help

I think you are correct, there is a market, but most people just buy on price alone these days. The policies that mostly cover full replacement that I didn't mention are the bank and brand assurance policies that are able to get their customers attention more and so market the features, as you say - onces i didn't mention include Alfa Romeo and BMW, who's customers are exactly the sort of people to have a nice kiddy seat and worry about such things as you say.

BTW bank assurance and brand assurance is where a brand of one firm is slapped on a product provided by an insurance company - e.g. BMW/mini insurance is provided by UKI, aka RBSI, aka direct line etc.
