Virgin Credit Card

Hi All
I was hoping sombeody could offer me a bit of advice on a Virgin credit card i had/have.
I had 2 credit cards and had some room on my other card and so i paid off all of my virgin credit card and put it onto this one card i had which had a better rate. The card was then not used (cut it up) and after a while the card was deactivated by Virgin.
Now i came home from work the other day to find a letter saying that i owe them £110 approx. I've gone through this card and there seems to be 34p that has been put onto the card and from there this amount has spiralled to £110. The first i knew about it was when these letters turned up. I had no statements and the card was deactivated by Virgin as i never cancelled it.
Where do i stand with this. Can anyone suggest what to do? I don't really want to pay £110 from a charge that cost 34p that i didn't know anything about.
Anyhelp would be appreciated
Thanks x
