Maplin - laptop charger broke after 11 months

Bought a laptop charger last febuary in maplin when my other one died after 2 and a half years. Do i have any rights for a repair? I only use it 3/4 times a week and i always unplug it but its not exactly easy to prove.... especially with a company like maplin from what i have heard. Also if they do send it off to be repaired i will be stuck with no charger for at least a week, is there anything else i can do about that? Thanks for the help in advance.

  • Unfortunately, for the hassle that you're going to have to go through you might as well buy a new charger. As you say - it's hard to prove that the product was faulty if it has been working ok for this long. Do you even have the receipt etc still?

By the sounds of it you already have reservations about Maplins, vote with your feet and buy it from somewhere else!
  • I used to work for Maplin and unless the policy has changed, here's what will usually happen.

Within 12 months, Maplin will send it to service for inspection (unless it is worth less than £20 in which case they usually just swap it there and then as it isn't worth the hassle). You can either request a refund or a repair/replacement.

They don't do repairs in store and so it will be around a week-10 working days before it goes through their service centre. You could request a refund and buy a new charger in store but if they come back with "no fault found" or "damage due to wear and tear / misuse" (unlikely from what you've said), you'll end up with two chargers (although you could return the new one under their 14 day no quibble - assuming that your original is returned in time).
