SUM function not working in OpenOffice Calc

As the title says, really. I can't get the SUM function to work in OpenOffice Calc, all it shows in the box is the formula, not the answer to all the numbers that need adding up.

For example, if I put:
7 in box A1
3 in box A2
5 in box A3
=SUM(A1:A3) in box A5

A5 will say the formula, and not 15 as it should do (because it should add A1, A2 and A3 together).

Any help appreciated.

Just tried exactly what you describe and it worked fine for me.

Which version of OpenOffice are you using?

I'm guessing it's the newest, only downloaded it a few hours ago (we've replaced our business laptop, so all the finance sheets etc need transferring. It worked fine on the old one, but on this laptop...).

I've found a temporary workaround using the bar right at the bottom of the screen, near the zoom control bit.
    Calc.jpg

That does the maths for whichever cell's highlighted, and I have to type the numbers manually into the cells themselves.

In Excel there's an option to display the formulas instead of the results, just as you show in your screenshot. I'd be surprised if there's not a similar option in OpenOffice so have a hunt through the options (preferences?)

I don't have OO installed on this PC so can't check.

I had a look through the settings I could find. I'm not too well versed in OO though, so I may have missed it.

ETA: Done more googling, and found the OpenOffice wiki (Here if anyone needs it ;) ). That had a break down of all the options, including how to set showing formulas or results in cells :D

    Thanks for the help, guys.
