There is nothing first class about Virgin's Upper Class product.

That's exactly what I was going to post :D

    Technically it's their business product.

I was upgraded last month from economy to business on JFK to LHR. QUOTE]

"Technically" you were upgraded to either Premium Economy or (talking of the flat beds) Upper Class

No it's their amalgamation of biz and 1st class

Not really. That would suggest that there were previously business and 1st class products which were combined to give a single product with elements of both ("amalgamation" was your choice of word), which simply isn't the case.

Upper Class Suite is the evolution of VA's Upper Class, which was previously old-style cradle seating. The Upper Class Suite has fully flatbeds in a herring-bone formation.

Upper Class Suite return tickets are competitively priced with other carriers business class products. Furthermore, seatguru, airlinequality and flatseats describe VA's Upper Class Suite product as a business class product.

In what way do you believe it's an "amalgamation" of 1st and business class ? What do VA offer beyond other carriers business class products ?

The simple fact that instead of econ/biz/1st, they have econ (PE) and UC

That makes no sense. First class refers to quality of the product, VAs UC isn't a first class service.

BA (and others) offer economy, economy plus, business and first class products on the same plane. VAs UC is comparable with BAs (and others) business product. It does not resemble (in any way) BAs first class product.

So, again, I must ask in what way you feel VAs UC resembles other carriers first class product? It's a business class product, end of story.

i was simply referring to the names given to the various product, not an objective classification.

I doubt every much that the argument about VS's J product is in any way helping the OP.
