Neighbour using my address for credit

I have a rubbish neighbour - loud music, threats to set the council on me for breeding dangerous dogs in the flat and letting them bark and wee up her door because someone complained about the Christmas songs on at full blast at 1.30am in November. (I have 3 house cats, no dogs - yes, the Tenancy Officer laughed when I told him that one and told me not to worry).

She's not the brightest but she's untrustworthy - parcels being reported as 'not received' for example. Her most recent moneymaking scheme has been 'accidentally' being hit in her boyfriend's car by old people driving cars on the only 3 occasions her toddler has been 'at the grandparents'. Now she could just be a rubbish driver, but it seems strange that they always pull out into her - almost like she is flashing them out and then denying it. She knocked on my door two months ago wanting to know if there was a number to sue the bus company because a driver 'ran her off the road' (no damage to vehicle).

Anyway, I have had a few letters come through with her name but my door number on, relating to a defaulted mobile phone bill, payment slips and the like. I did call the number on them twice and they said it was just a typo.

But I've had another letter since.

So either they are repeatedly typo'ing 92 instead of 90 (which seems a bit unlikely) or the cheap tat is using my address because she can't get anymore credit at her own. We have the same postcode and it is possible that the postie is usually putting the letters with her name but my address through her door.

Is there anything I can do to

a) ensure that the debt collection company goes to her address, not mine?
b) changes their records?
c) doesn't list it on a credit search on my property?
d) get the unpleasant little baggage a legal come-uppance?

all without her realising and setting the family pitbull - her Aunty 'Faaaaaamly is evryfink' Sharneeeeeeee - on me?

I can't wait to get out of this dump...
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

i would have thought that if she is using a false address to obtain credit then she is committing fraud - simple as that

Hire a professional hitman [or woman].

    Works a treat.
  • Go to the http://www.experian.co.uk/ website and signup for a free 30 day trial to get a credit report, you will be able to see if any loans or contracts have been taken out at your address and you can also get them removed for free if they are for someone who does not live at your address.

You can then also inform the Police as you will then have proof.

Phone the companies and inform them that the person does not live at your house and where they do. Any further mail return unopened
  • Return to sender. Let them investigate it.

Isn't it actually an offence to open someone elses mail? - if so, how can you ring the companies ;)

I am not sure if this is still relevant but about 10 years ago I repeatedly received mail for someone who no longer lived at my address, I was advised initially to put 'Not known at this address' on the envelope and put it back in the post box, but this continued for a year afterwards so I contacted Royal Mail and they told me to make a written request to the sorting office manager to have any mail to my address in that persons name stopped at the sorting office and returned to the sender, which they did so it might be worth a go.

Whilst most posties use common sense and will post a letter through the correct door, even if the number is wrong, they should never do this with post that has the instruction 'Do not redirect', which a lot of companies offering credit etc put on their mail, if you are getting this point it out to your postie, it is intended as a counter measure against fraud.

either return all mail as 'not living at this address'
or my favourite, open it, call them, and cancel everything/inform them of their mistake.
if its got your address on it, how are you to know its your neighbours name, i dont know my neighbours names.
