IAMs senior dog food

Hi, my dog is currently on the IAMs diet, but its costing a fortune.
Was £9.78 for a 3kg bag in Asda, but now VAT is back up its up to £9.99.
On two occasions we've been lucky and found a bag in the reduced section because it had been damaged, but I was just wondering, does anyone know of anywhere it is cheaper?
I've seen the puppy variety and normal variety and even a cat variety in stores like B&M and Home Bargains, just not the stuff my dog has..
Thank you

To be honest, I'd consider changing foods completely. If the Iams is costing you £10 per 3kg, you're paying £50 for 15kg, you could buy a bag of Orijen for less, which is vastly, vastly superior food (grain and cereal free, pretty much the best dry dog food around) You could buy a 15kg sack of Arden Grange for around £28, burns for around £35-£40 or maybe skinners duck and rice for £20. All so much better than iams quality wise.
If you're set on keeping your dog on Iams, pets at home do 15kg bags for £35 ish.

Check out that sight for reviews of dog foods, ingrediance etc.
Basically, for the price you're paying you can get much much better for less.Sigless0 -
I agree with Rev: you could get more for your money by switching brands, with IAMS you are payng for an awful lot of advertising. Check the recommended feed rates on the bags, you will feed less of the better quality brands. Applaws (called Encore in Sainsbury) is arguably as good as Orijen, both are high meat content and grain free. I e-mailed loads of pet food companies when I was thinking of switching my cats food and ended up with a total of 2.5kg of free food!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Do sainsburys sell the applaws for dogs? I've only ever seen the cats applaws there.Sigless0 -
I would have a look at other foods too - maybe Orijen, or CSJ...
there are several senior dog foods made by CSJ, it is good stuff and cheaper than IAMS

ETA - having looked at the ingredients in IAMS senior ...
Ingredients
Maize, chicken (>20%), wheat, sorghum, barley, poultry meal, dried beet pulp, animal fat, chicken digest, fish meal, dried whole egg, brewer's dried yeast, potassium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium hexametaphosphate, DLÐmethionine.
I would certainly question the necessity of spending £3 a kiligram on that... there are many more economical foods that are probably better...0 -
IAMS food is on offer at Pats at home at the moment0

We give our older dog Supadog Mature (used to be similar and called Young at Heart). We really noticed an improvement in here coat and her eyes (bright!). Think it's about £20(maybe slightly more) or so for a big bag.0

I was looking at Orijen only last night.
Not sure what is the weight of your dog but my 35kg of GS would cost me between £1.20 and £1.40 per day to feer Orijen only (there are 3 varieties from what I saw, one new more expensive than the other two, I did nto look at Senior, just Adult - not sure if the do senior).
Oh, just found it, the do offer "senior" - here it is
As people already said - some food that seems more expensive does in fact work out cheaper as you feed less of good quality food.
Origen feeding guide is here
You may also have a look at Burns Pet Nutrition
Burns Adult Dogs and Seniors
Burns Feeding Guide
Burns have an excellent pet nutritionist that can advice you how much and what to feed, via email - very quick replies.
Both Orijen and Burns (Burns also do tinned food - if you buy one and open make sure YOU do not eat it as it smells sooooooooooooooooooooooo good) and if you do a bit of calculations, you will find they are actually cheaper to feed than the other food.
All the best0 -
Orijen do do Senior in one variety, my Staffy has it & it costs about £2.50 a week if I buy the biggest bag, she's 13kg (Just over) & eats about 110g a day now0
