Is Windows detecting the drive? Maybe try right clicking on the drive in my computer and click "Eject" and see if that makes it open?

the paper clip should work if you ram it in.

has the pc been moved, and the cable has come lose inside, do any lights come on it?

    Try ejecting before windows starts.

I have checked inside and all the cables are connected and the light comes on when you start up.

Not with the power off. You need to take both sides off to get the front off and I didnt fancy powering it up this way.

Maybe try switching the cables over on your two drives and see if it makes any difference?

    you've lost me.

Just in case there is any confusion, there is usually a hole on the front of the CD drive, to stick a paper clip in, which opens the drawer when a cd is stuck.
