Closing MBNA cos of high APR!!!!!

I’m about close my MBNA platinum card account because of the new high APR, and I also want to apply for the Halifax C.C of 9 months int. free purchases.
I have two other cards with no outstanding balance on either, but I don’t want my credit file to look like I have too much credit hence will want to apply for the Halifax card as soon as MBNA can update my credit records to show the account as closed.
Any idea how long it takes them to update credit file???
