I recently set a photo of my childre as the pc background but it takes up all the screen and some of the icons are not as clear now.
How can i change the size so that i have a plain border all round?:o
Also---can I make my avatar a bit smaller,and how??

Hi there. Im assuming this pic is pretty big so u mite have to make it smaller. Try and follow this and see if u can get it to work.
1. Make a backup of the photo (obviously u want the original should something go wrong)
2. Assuming u are using windows XP here, right click on the photo file and click "edit". if this is unavailable open the photo with paint.
3. In paint (when the photo is open) along the menu bar at the u want to click on Image then Attributes. Change the width and height values to an appropriate size...bair in mind that paintbrush doesnt use proportion contrainsts so it may stretch it.
4. Save the file under a different name.
5. Right click on your desktop and click properties. This will bring up the Display Properties and u want to click on the "Display" tab at the top of this window.
6. Browse for the picture and set the position as "Center" and choose a colour for the rest of the background. Then just click ok.
This is a fairly basic way using software that comes with windows. Photoshop and Fireworks will edit the photos in proportion if u have either of these programs.
There might be a quicker way to do this but this is one I would use. Hope this helps.0
