The scenic was alright last night then this morning it just turned over but would not start. l noticed the fuel pump did not kick in on the key but later on in the day l tried to start it again and the fuel pump kicked in but did not start, now it's gone back to no noise from the fuel pump on the ignition key turn. Where is the fuel pump and relay on a Renault Scenic mark 1 S reg 1999 petrol 8v.

if the battery is on its last legs then i doubt it can draw enough power to run the pump, have you tested the battery??Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

l have had jump leads on and the engine was turning over, someone has said it could be the immobiliser key not turning the immobiliser offpitkin2020 wrote: »if the battery is on its last legs then i doubt it can draw enough power to run the pump, have you tested the battery??
when l use the fob key it opens the doors and the immobiliser light on the dashboard is still flashing l put the key in the ignition and to the start position it;s still slowly flashing. it is also flashing as l try to start the car.l cannot remember if the light should go out or not when the ignition is switched on
if the immobiliser light should go out could the fob battery cause this and would you have to go to the dealers for a fob battery presuming this was the cause. Would this stop the fuel pump kicking in.. 0 -
what kind of noise does your fuel pump make?
if your pump is making a noise then this might be the problem, the only time ive ever heard a fuel pump make a noise is when the fuel has been drained to change an inline fuel filter and when the ignition gets turned back on you get a whooshing noise for a few seconds until the fuel reaches the fuel rail....work permit granted!0 -
I too have a Renault Scenic, second hand and only had it a couple of months. Mine has an engine warning light on, I'm reckoning its the ignition coil thats my problem, as my SIL had the same problem with her Megane. My engine is shaking, gear stick shaking and loss of power going up the gears like it is going to stall but doesn't quite!! I guessed what my problem was through the renault forums and then my sis in law confirmed it.
To find a solution to your problem definitely go on the Renault owners forum, they are all really helpful. Someone is bound to have had the same fault as you. My problem with my Renault is a common one, especially in this cold weather.
My problem now is that the AA are only taking breakdowns for people who are vulnerable - broken down on a motorway, my car is at home so they wont come out even though I have home start. i've been told to phone back in 24 hours. I specifically have home start for a reason, I need the car for getting to work. I don't grudge these people getting priority but if the weather carries on this badly are they just going to make me wait for a week til the weather improves, if I'm lucky!!0 -
The whooshing noise is what l mean on the turn of a key, it's not even doing that now but yestaday while trying to start the car it did it a few times on the key then nothing....Would a key fob cause thisgoldspanners wrote: »what kind of noise does your fuel pump make?

it could, if the key is part of the immobiliser system, the immobiliser could be cutting power from the fuel pump, so when your turning it over effectively your emptying the fuel lines, when power is eventually restored to the fuel pump the whooshing noise is the fuel lines filling up with fuel.
it could be an immobilier fault or a fuel pump fault....work permit granted!0
