Hi,
Hope there is someone who can advise me, my Father in Law went to buy a new bed on 27th Dec, my OH and I advised him to get a bed that has two single mattresses on it (as his wife is disabled) However, he went ahead and ordered an ordinary double bed and paid about £800 for it.
The shop advised it would take approx 6 weeks for it to be made and delivered.
Now he has discussed it with us, he realised he should have got the twin double. He went back to the shop to explain he wanted to change the order, they told him to ring Head Office, who said he could change the order, but as he didn't do it within 24 hrs of the original order they would charge a £180 admin fee!!!!
Is there any way he can get around this fee?
Thanks for listening!

Unless the agreement indicated otherwise, he does not have a statutory right to cancel, especially for something that appears to be custom made.Gone ... or have I?0

Thanks, I will have to have a good read through the agreement, altho' he doesn't want to actually cancel, just amend the order.
Hopefully he will actually listen to advice before going ahead and ordering next time!
It just seemed 24 hrs was a short time window.
Thanks anyway.....0 -
The company are already going well above what they need too.0

Well above? Really? I know they don't actually have to do anything, but I hardly think charging £180  as an admin fee is going 'above and beyond the call of duty'. Sounds like a nice little earner for them.0

If the product was made and shipped from a Far East warehouse after 24 hours then a charge would probably be fair. After all they now have a bed on a boat for the next month which they can't guarantee to be sold...0
