    Realised that ... I was just developing it.

    Is that to get (on) piste .... or something really interesting like the Glacier Express? If the latter - let me know how it goes ...... trying to talk the OH into a couple of weeks on the Swiss railways but she travels heavy (if that's the suitcase opposite of light?) and doesn't fancy (me) lugging luggage more than once. The cruise is to the Arctic ..... so we're just getting nicely acclimatised at the moment.
    Yep "old farts trip" -glacier express - a trial to see if we could hack 21 days on a train accross the US or Canada (its the shoes that kill the cases!!!)

    So.....I have the Guaranteed Saver Reward (as I have a qualifying current account), it pays 3%, how do I get the extra 0.2% ?

    You can't because the small print says 'Halifax Guaranteed Saver Reward (New accounts opened from 5th January 2010 only).' But I doubt you'll be losing out as Halifax will probably in effect be lowering the qualifying account bonus from 0.5% to 0.2% as far as the Halifax Guaranteed Saver Reward is concerned.

    On your excellent advice - the TSB account will have some benefit after next week. So an application in the OHs name is en route ... she just doesn't know it yet.

    (Not the shoes ... they just come out of their boxes and into their soft travel bags! Then they fill - totally - one of those large wheeled trolley bags! That's on top of the max size cases ... which is why she thinks the train will be inadequate! Do they do weight watchers for excessive packing? )
    If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

    More snow & Eurostar's broken again - why are we doing this?? Oh and for the 1st time ever, separate cases- except that we are now snowbound and can't get out to buy a new case. (One of us will be travelling light ;))
    {Think maybe I better apologise, before someone gets upset that we have hijacked a finance thread for a holiday discussion :p}

    I think it is important that the alternative uses of savings are demonstrated. Why save if you can't spend later ? Good luck to all those travelling in these frosty times.

    The Caribbean looks nice this time of year.

    I think this weather is beginning to tee everyone off ... so we should be forgiven taking their minds to holidays?
    Love to know how you get on .... I have several friends who've done it .... but they're suddenly all rail anoraks, so everything that's 2-4-6 (yes, I know that's not a train wheel configuration .. but it sounds like one and has enough financial connotations for this thread?;)) comes across as being marvellous. They even send Xmas cards with snowy rail stations on them! So an impartial view would be welcome ..... as I'm trying to talk the OH out of clothes (well ... evening dresses at least) and onto the Swiss railways!!

    ..anoraks -yes that's a bit of a worry! I can do Brits and bogies and 50 years ago I did have an "Ian Allen" book but thats it. ;) Got the final itinerary today -first stop Cologne where (just for a change) they are having the worst snow in years! I'll report back.

    I received a letter a few days ago confirming I had been registered for this.

    Does anyone know how the interest is added? Is it to the savings account or into my current account? Also, what happens if I close the savings account in the meantime?
