Managed to write out my plot and then decided just to start writing!

Thought I'd go with the idea it's better to have rubbish to edit than nothing at all :)

Have managed 4,500 words so far but seem to be flagging a bit now...

    How is everyone else doing?

Well done Beccie - what type is it going to be - historical, medical, crime, or whatever?

Iv just recently started writing a book and saw this thread.

I have only done about 20 pages so far but its been going great, I am writing a romance and hoping to get ti published soon.

I am writing more for the love of writing and not too worried about the money as if the first book goes well then I hope to start doing it a lot more regularly.

I found the start a bit hard but once i got past the introduction of characters its gone great.

how many pages is everyone thinking their book should have?

also what is everyone writing their books on? im using Microsoft word but have changed the page settings to 7" x 5" so it looks more like book pages, also what font size are we all using?

    Thanks

    Thanks Anglea!

At the moment I'm not sure if it's going to be just a straight forward modern romance or because of the saucier(!) bits maybe Blaze?

I was finding it hard to keep exact guidelines in my head so I decided to just write and then when I (hopefully!) finish it then I will add/remove bits to make it right for the line I think it most suits.

Not sure this is the best way to do it but feels right so I'm going with it

How are things progressing for you?

  • Arrghhh.... writing is just the start!

Can i jump in? I have written a book - well, 50,000 words. Now I need to edit it and expand some areas and even though I've let it lie for a little while, I am finding it so hard to get motivated and tidy it up.

Somebody tell me to get off this forum and get working...

hiya, my cousin writes for mills and boon and its a hard slog.

i write, and the best thing i did was join a local writing group where we critique each others work - sometimes other people pick up on something that you have missed, also mslexia is a brilliant magazine for women writers http://www.mslexia.co.uk/index.php full of tips and writing competions too.

Beccie thanks for your reply about your story. I'm not writing anything at the moment I can't seem to focus on anything for long that I start. My dad's been writing a book recently and it's getting published so I can't seem to think about my own writing.

However, reading this forum lately has made me feel like starting again as I wrote the synopsis for a book a long while back and sent it to a publisher who was interested, however, the timing was wrong for me (family problems) so I never finished it.

I don't fancy that storyline anymore (set in the Amazon, female doctor) so might have to come up with something else.

So how racy is your story going to be I wonder? :)

If you are hoping to submit your book to a publisher you need to send it in the correct format, and making it look like a pretend book isn't it. There's loads of guidance out there but basically one side of paper only, double line spaced, font size 12, serif font such as Times New Roman, big margins of minimum 3cm all round.
