I'm after a cheap digital camera for my daughter and was thinking one with a fixed lens would be safer for the inevetable drops, (she's dropped mine a couple of times and the lens struggles to move occasionaly) but if the lens doesn't move in and out, does that mean it will nearly always take out of focus photo's? I was thinking of this one http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.206-0914.aspx but DH says it needs auto focus.
I dont want a kiddies chuck it all over the place one that takes rubbish pictures.
What do you think?

dont know what age child you have - but we have a vtech kids camera, and for a child it works great, and is designed to withstand being dropped

I've read reviews about that that say the picture quality is rubbish, its more just a toy or gimmick, than a camera. My dd is only 3, but she loves to take proper pictures of people and likes to look back through them. If she thinks its a toy, like the toy laptop I got her, she wont look twice at it.
The other thing is I dont want her to learn its ok to just chuck it around, she uses my camera and always makes sure she puts the strap round her wrist and puts it carefully back on the table to keep it safe.
So thats why I'd prefer to get a proper, but cheapish camera.0 -
Hi, A moving lens is for zoom effect. Auto focus is for er, focus. Is it for you or your daughter, when you say no rubbish pictures. Your girl will love every one of them and have a special memory of that. Look for a bargain in your local photo shop, explain what you want and see what they can find.0

The Kodak Box Brownie lens didn't zoom and it still managed to focus

depends on how much you want to spend the fujifilm finepix z range is quite cool and takes reasonable pictures, it also benifits from a optical zoom WITHOUT a extending lens at the front as it has a internal optical zoom but they start at around £50 - 60 which is probably a bit expensive for a 3 year old but then again if she is careful with it it wouldnt be a bad investmentDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

No idea if it's any good but it's a 'proper' camera and it's cheap. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
