We are finally thinking about moving. Surveys are being done tomorrow and the wheels are turning. We do have an odd question though
We live on a first floor flat with two lanes of traffic on each side outside our front door.
Directly adjacent to the front door is a zebra crossing so we have zig zags and the police are quite hot on it if they see someone stopping on them.
25 yards down from that there are 3 parking bays and a further 5 farther along with the road running along behind it.
Can you get permission to block any part of the road from your local council? OR do we have to move on a Sunday in order to block any part of the road or parking? I just can't see any other way around it.
When we moved in incidentally, it was new years day 2000. No-one gave a stuff what we did because it was a bank holiday and they were all nursing hangovers!!

I would contact the council and ask them, not sre what department though.
Good luck with moving0 -
There's no way you can stop on the zigzags around a zebra crossing at ANY time, they're there for a very good reason, even stopping for a few seconds there is stupid and dangerous. How are cars supposed to be able to see whether or not a pedestrian is on the crossing?
Could you not negotiate with the owners of the parking bays to see if they can lend you them for a while? Or are they 'public bays'? If they're public bays, I would just park my own car in there the day before and make sure you keep hold of the space by putting your friend's car in there if you need to move your car.0 -
they're public bays, so I guess it's kind of first come first served! There is a free car park around the corner but these are limited to twenty minutes. I might just chance it and see if anyone tries to say anything!0

I do totally agree re the Zebras by the way. I wouldn't try to park on them. Especially bearing in mind that it makes my blood boil walking past a set further up the road each morning. There is a large Zig Zag next door to a nursery that I walk past each morning on a road next to a roundabout. The road is a bit narrow so the parents just park on the pavement on top of them. To the extent I should add that I have to walk in the road to get around their cars as they offload their sprogs onto the pavement completely blocking it. They think the zig zags are there FOR them to park on, not to stop them parking
My my have I said some words to them!!!!0 -
Speak to your local council or the local police station to see if its possible to cone the bays off, I know they have done it round here for funerals (slightly different I know).0
