I think it's a personal thing and some people can justify it while others can't.

Me and my oh have decided this could be the year for us (after 15 years engaged :o) and it's gonna go like this...

Registry office with 2 of oh's friends as witnesses then off for a meal. I don't even know how much this will cost yet but I'm not big on church's, flowers, cake etc. and neither is he. I don't even know were to start :o but I have chose a ring lol.
Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.
  • Im with you all. We had the big new years eve wedding booked, but it was never about what we wanted and much more about what everyone else excpected. I also found in a short space of time, people had very strong ideas on what i should and shouldnt do.

To cut along story short, we fly to Vegas on 17th Jan with my folks. We are there a week and we will get married at some point in that time frame.

We are then heading off on a 15 week honeymoon travelling the world. I know its sound bad but we are having the wedding we want, then spending the money we would have spent trying to please others on the trip of a llifetime. We will have a dinner for everyone when we return, at our fave place, just less formal and no night time party.

I cant wait and if i could just find some shoes, my mind would be alot less stressed. Oh and need to not eat for 2 weeks, total detox and gym bunny.... No pressure at all
    :naughty:
  • We spent a lot on our wedding, and I remember at the end of the night lying in bed thinking 'oh my god, that's it, we've just spent 20k on today' and feeling a little panicky. When spending the money, I kept saying 'but it'll be worth it'. Yet when it was over, that night, I kept thinking 'argh!'. The feeling left the next day, and we had a fab honeymoon included. We could have spent it better, yes. But I'm still glad we did it.

I'm getting married 1st week in March in Registry Office on a saturday with just families & close friends (Approx 30-40 guests)

The whole thing including honeymoon is costing £2750!! - so it can be done on a budget.
    (£1000 of that is honeymoon)!

We have scrapped the day time do and decided to have a honeyoon instead.

Selfish - NO - it is ''our'' day after all.

We're spending quite a lot on our wedding and I must admit although I love our plans some of our family are acting in ways that makes me wish we'd just ran off and done it quietley and for a lot less.

I think you should spend what your happy with.. a small budget doesn't need to mean small wedding just a bit of creative thinking. Despite having a fairly big budget I'm always looking for ways to save/ economise/ get a better deal- I don't want to pay more just for the sake of it!

This is MSE afterall! I quite agree. Although I could spend £1500 on a dress if I had wanted (and it WAS amazing!), however an almost identical one in BHS (ok, not as supportive etc but to a casual observer) for £60 in the sale meant I could put £1440 towards my new car, which will I daresay get a lot more use!

Sadly though, I may have to take it back. It was meant to be a size 12; the size 14 fit perfectly but it was the wrong colour and had marks on it. I'm currently on weightwatchers and doing well....I was a size 12 a few years ago and thought it would be a good goal, so bought it.

Then I got my size 12 friend to try it on and she said it was tiny, more like a 10! Have already bought the car now though!

So if anyone wants a gorgeous size 10/12 'alicia' dress, let me know before I take it back!
  • We were married very recently, just November, and ended up spending just under £8,000.I frequently had doubts about "wasting" the money on us and kept thinking I could have a very nice new kitchen instead. In the end I am very glad we spent the money on ourselves instead,we will only have one wedding and I am glad we will have such fantastic memories of that wedding week.We can always save up again for a new kitchen.
