Wireless repeater / booster??

Hi all,
I use a netgear wireless router in my house (the free one ky give with their broadband).
Unfortunately, due to several solid brick walls, the recption in my study is faitly poor (even with external aerial attached to cable for better placement).
I do have have another spare netgear access point (I guess traditionally used to connect to a wireless network and then connect to a computer via an ethernet cable).
Is there anyway I can re-configure the access point to instead take an input via the ethernet cable and transmit - effectively making it a repeater/booster?
Many thanks!!

What model is the spare router? Some can be configured as an "extender" and some can't. If you want to look for yourself, Google the router name and model and "extender".0
