there are so many people willing to do the job managers can cherry pick the ones that do the job and create no problems....

my advice is keep quiet... youve done nothing the rest of us havent done... hth

Many retailers are now going towards no BH's and extra holiday. The company I used to work for did this. 8 extra days holiday a year, no enhanced payments for "BH" days (or Sunday) and take a days holiday for 25th and 1st (shop closed) if a contracted working day.

    Trying to solve the problem:
    • I have not yet raised this with my manager (He's good with words and can talk his way out of things)

I hear this so often. Instead of saying "I was wrong, my boss was right", they put it down to "being good with words". Maybe your boss just says all the right things...mainly because he is right?

LOL. ok, no more replies from anyone please! haha! I get the message :o:D
Thank God no one knows me here!

I guess it's a general misconception, then, because im definitely not the only one who originally held this opinion.

Hey folks, stop having a go! maz has learnt from us.

It's interesting that there is a misconception about that Xmas and NY eves are bank hols, but don't you remember not knowing stuff, or assuming stuff that is wrong? I can remember SOOOOOOOO clearly being a student, and always seemed to be expecting, for various reasons, to get paid more than I did.

(And they didn't have MSE in the Ark, so there was no-one to help me!) :p

:rotfl: c'mon jm, you're not THAT old!

I make a point of explaining things to my sons as they arise, for example they were TUPEd not that long ago so I told them what that meant. Not sure they read the letters they were sent, they were only working on a casual basis by then, but I thought they should know what could and couldn't happen after TUPE.

And I told DS1 he had to resign IN WRITING when he realised he wasn't going to keep working there, and why it was important to do that and get a P45 rather than leave himself on their books.

It does shock me how little some of my colleagues know, however.
Signature removed for peace of mind

By law the minimum number of days off is 28 (based on a five day working week) to include bank and public holidays.

That sounds a raw deal. Are you entitled to a day off with pay in lieu of the Boxing Day? Or do you get a lieu day off but without pay?

The Saturday though was not a bank holiday, the Monday was and the OP particularly stated that he worked 'the Saturday'.
