Fitting toilet to concrete floor...
Comments
-
I see this topic is going off topic! All I wanted was some advice
BUT the good news - the gas pipe does not run under the toilet after all!!
I had to break up the concrete at the edge of wall and saw all three 22mm pipes (i.e. 2 for CH and one for Gas) so this gave me more confidence to start drilling the hole for toilet (slowly obviously as per Wig's post) and all is fine!! The contractors who built this flat is obviously rubbish almost in every way (a quick development for a quick sale!)
Advice please for the following;
Now I gotta fill in the gaps/holes in the floor = would it be ok for me to use Foam Filler? As I am not keen on waiting for cement to dry as need all of this to be fitted in ASAP.0 -

I would not use foam filler to replace the concrete floor. Can't you just mix up some cement and when you have fitted the toilet the cement would be virtually set! As you are just patching up the exploratory holes in the floor, you don't need concrete, a cement mix will be fine.

That I will do, thanks for that info.
Initially, there's this carpet in the bathroom which we got rid of, and to find there's the vinyl flooring strongly glued stuck on the self levelling compound which is on concrete!
I am not keen on removing that (which I am not at all) but there will be some gaps of vinyl which the new toilet and sink will be on, what shall I fill them in with? The same cement mix to fill up to the vinyl level? This is so that I can fix another Vinyl flooring on top.
Thanks again!0 -
How are you finishing the floor ie wood, stone, lino,
You might want to lift the toilet up a little to accomodate these (helps with cutting around foot).
As for the gas pipe why should it be running under the toilet these are meant to be run alongside walls, or at least around the edge of a room under the concreate. In fact they should only run between the tank, or mains Direct to the Boiler then to the Fire etc. I dont understand why its running under this toilet.
Use wood as has been mentioned already cut it 10mm smaller than the foot of the toilet use pins and a silicone based glue to attach this to the floor and then screw the toilet to the wood. The thickness of the wood depends on what flooring you want to put down lino etc 6mm ply lamminate floor 9-12mm ply Natural stone (check with you supplier as each dif stone is calibrated to dif thicknesses) rough guide 12-20mmTHE SHABBY SHABBY FOUNDER0 -
Now you have your toilet down as you said you did, you can fill the gap you mentioned around the loo and any others with either off cuts of vinyl, or thin 3mm plywood. New vinyl on top, job done.0
