Off ill and unable to sign on for JSA what happens?

I have been unwell over the christmas and new year holidays and I was meant to sign on today but was not very well at all today so I was unable to attend the job centre. I range them ahead of time and they told me they would send me out a form.
Now I wasn't well and my head was a little fuzzy so I have no recollection of what form and what I am meant to do with it.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what they might send me and what the proceedure is if your ill and signing on for income based JSA?
Also what will happen to this fortnights money if I have been unable to sign on? Just worried, as it isnt a lot and I rather need it. As do most people I bet.
Thanks in advance, just saves me worrying till this form appears.
Thanks
P.S. I did go to the doctor, the only one I could see was a walk-in centre and they gave me a prescription but I have nothing else from them as proof, etc. Should I write and ask for something?

How long have you been unwell for? Have you been unwell before whilst signing on?Gone ... or have I?0

No this is the first time they have had to sign me off for not attending due to illness. I have been still trying to get work over the holiday period so kept my end of the bargain but was unable to attend the sign on today.0

You are allowed to be ill for up to two weeks and still be considered to be capable for work providing you continues to meet all the other basic criteria for JSA except those relating to being available for work and actively seeking work.
If you are ill for longer than two weeks then your JSA will be stopped and you will need to claim either income support or employment and support allowance.
You can only be ill twice in any one period of claiming JSA.
If you have claimed JSA for longer than one year then you can be ill twice in every year.
After your illness you will be asked to sign a written declaration which indicates the period when you were unwell.
If you are ill for a third time during a period of claiming or during any subsequent year your JSA will be stopped and you will need to claim either ESA or IS instead.0 -

You cannot make a new claim for IS due to sickness now.0 -
I believe you won't get paid until you can attend the Jobcentre to sign your declaration for that period."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

You will be sent out a JSA28 which you need to complete and return, pretty simply form. Your money will go out as normal, but you will need to return the form before next signing or your claim will be closed.
You are allowed 2 periods of sickness in a year, anymore than that and you need to sign off and possibly claim ESA.
Likewise if you are ill and given a sicknote for longer than 2 weeks you again need to sign off.
Hope you get better soonNothing to see here :beer:0 -
For the first week of sickness you can self certify, you should be able to get a form from the doctorsThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I haven't received the form yet, called in to job centre on monday, and have not received my payment as normal today. So what do I do? I did go to doctors on monday but never got a form at the time, never knew I had to. What to do, ill and now no money for food, bills, etc?0

Useful points here - but it still leaves us wondering what to do if anyone comes to a 3rd "period of sickness" in a year - as you've only said "possibly claim ESA". Its not clear what income the person gets if they dont wish to go through all the hassle of claiming ESA - or feel able to "jump through the hoops" I gather are involved in that.
Presumably they would just swop from benefit called "JSA" to benefit called "Income Support" and the actual amount of money involved would be the same?0 -

No.. Income Support is no longer claimed if sick - the only option would be to claim ESA once a person has had their 2 periods of sickness.
Unfortunately, the person will have to 'go through all the hassle' if they want benefit...Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!0
