hi
we are taking 2 brownie packs to london this weekend, 17 girls in total. some girls have dropped out so we dont have a huge amount in the kitty. we had hoped to do the london eye but that looks too pricy now. does anyone have any ideas what we can do with them that wont cost the earth???? We are already looking at doing one of the free museums but any other ideas would be appreciated

Please tell me you are going to the Guide Heritage Centre? I can't find any official link to it but it does say they do organised tours for £3 or £5. I remember being in the shop when I was a Brownie and I was so proud and sooo excited to be surrounded by so many Brownie things, lol! Long time ago now.

It's so cold right now but as it's in Buckingham Palace Road you would perhaps make it around the corner to go and see the Queen's House for a quick peek!
I think the Science and Natural History Museums are fantastic and for their age group, Launchpad on the top floor of the science museum will keep them occupied for hours! It's entirely interactive, a big playground but with a scientific point to all of it, plus they do presentations throughout the day. Last time I was there, they had presentations geared for kids down on the ground floor as well. That was the school holidays but I can imagine they do weekends as well.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I second the Science and NH Museums, which are next door to each other (use the NH side door to save queuing at the main entrance, it is just along from the Science with an earth poster above it and an escalator up). My advice would be to go there for opening time as it does get very busy. You can also do a tour of of London using the no 15 older type red bus from outside Marble Arch as it goes past a lot of London sites on its way to the Tower (google no 15 London Bus. Children travel free on buses. Try to get on the top deck for the better views. Also another option is kids vue are showing the Fantastic Mr Fox for 95p per child-adults go free. It is showing at London Fulham 9/10 at 11am. You would need to prebook.

How about the Houses of Parliment? From Buckingham Palace & Guide Centre, you'd walk along Birdcage Walk and see the Horse Guards, then down past Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and Houses of Parliment.
Just over Westminister Bridge is a MacDonalds. If you then walked along the South Bank there is always something to look at with all the street performers, onto the Tate Modern. The Tate always used to be interesting as it's alternative art and normally gets a WOW reaction (even if it's a "is this really art?!"), I don't know what's on at the moment (it's been a few years since I lived in London) but it used to be worth a look round (and its free). Then over the wobbly bridge to St Paul's and back on the tube?
It's a fair bit of walking but they would have seen some of the tourist landmarks and been able to take photos; Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliment, Millenium Wheel, River Thames. It depends on what your girls are interested in and your other plans. You would need to tube it from Science Museeum -South Kensington (circle line, change at Victoria to go to Green Park for Buck Palace or stay on to Embankment for houses of Parliment).
As I said it's been a few years since I was there but I hope this helps!0 -
