Police "static vehicle check"
Comments

I saw this today, though didn't see any police around, but saw 2 signs in my town notifying drivers of this. So did wonder if they were acting on it in rush hour.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160

No?...
Just want to see if anyone knows anything about "static vehicle checks"?.
...
Never heard the phrase before and a google search didn't pick up anything.

These are fairly common, often in conjunction with VOSA.
They will pull in every 5th (or whatever number depending on how busy the road is), and anything that looks dodgy.
They will check it for insurance/tax etc, possibly check the driver, check tyres etc etc.
Much more common as part of their winter tyre checks etc.
I've seen a couple on the northbound carriageway just south of the Kincardine Bridge recently.
Dodgy vans etc seem to be the favouite

This happens occasionally up our way. There's a big tourist car park they use to herd the vehicles into.
I got asked if I knew what the legal tyre tread limit was and if I serviced my car regularly. Car was given the once over and I left.
A couple of weeks later it was HGV's they were pulling in.Herman - MP for all!

I was pulled into one a few weeks ago.
As well as the Police and VOSA, there was the HM Customs Road Fuel Testing People (looking for red diesel I presume), the Department for Work and Pensions (looking for people working and claiming I believe) also the Local Authority were there in case any taxis were stopped.
After about 30 seconds I was waived on (I have a newish petrol car) but there were about 3 or 4 vans and a couple of older cars stopped.

I remember one of these in the late nineties. It was my mums old tank of a Pug 505 estate. We got pulled in and they checked everything, found a minor issue and said to fix it (no ticket or owt) went round again and they pulled us in again - when we said we'd already been in once they asked if we had documentary proof and sent us in again! Second time round there was apparently nothing wrong with the car :rotfl:Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0
