Claiming tax back

When do i process an application for a refund of my tax disc, after the vehicle has been signed over to someone else?

Only ask as have never done this before, in that my car is being collected by the finance company as i voluntarily ended the agreement.

So i am assuming that when they come and collect the vehicle they need to sign the revelant information on the V5 to take ownership of the car and then i need to hang onto the tax disc to claim a refund?

The finance company did ask if it was taxed and i said yes, but then asked if the vehicle had to be taken away with tax and was told no and that if i wanted to claim it back that was fine, but they just needed to know one way or another so as to know where to bring trade plates to take the car away.

The tax disc runs out at the end of April, so i am again assuming i will get a refund of Feb, Mar and April back?

As long as DVLA receive it before the end of January 2010, yes you are correct.

Any reason you didn't want to reclaim Januarys tax?

They collect car you remove the disc before they are given the keys. You send disc to DVLA on form V14 from post office, take a photocopy of the completed form and obtain proof of postage (alternatively go to your local DVLA office) before sending. Send on or before the end of the month, they do not have to recieve it before the end of the month, you have to post it before the end of the month, your proof of postage will proove you did this.

You could go for recorded delivery if it makes you happier.

Notify the DVLA of change of ownership and make sure you recieve the letter of confirmation and keep the letter for a long time.

Yeah, I meant if they are picking the car up this week, he could have stored it off road for a few days and got January back aswell.

I sent a letter that was received on the 23rd Dec to voluntarily end my agreement. Got a phone call on the 29th asking why i cancelled payment, told them, so the VT didn't go on my file until the 29th Dec.

They rang me on the 31st asking if id had a phone call about collecting the vehicle, which i hadn't and told to wait until today (5th) if i didn't have a phone call to ring them. I only got the phone call on the 4th confirming that it was to be collected and then told id get another phone call soon to arrange collection, so i don't even know when its being collected yet.

Didn't collect my newer car due to payment issue with the dealership being paid by cheque until the 2nd Jan and had to obviously drive the car thats going back to the finance company to get to the garage and then i drove the newer car back, OH drove the other car back.

Plus i also live in flats and we all have to park on the road, no where to store a car off the road unfortunately. If i had a garage as some flats in block around the corner, i would of definately parked it in there and claim Jans back.
