Hey all.
I am planning to visit the Lake District for 2 days. Hoping someone can give me suggestions on what places to go and visit and places to stay etc.
I do not have transport so any places must be accesible via public transport or walking distance.
Thanks.

Depends where you are staying. The main tourist towns are quite well linked with public transport.
A boat trip on Lake Windermere is well worth it - regular trips between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside, with the option of getting off and looking around each town. At Lakeside there is also a short steam railway ride (Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway) which can be included with your boat ticket.
At Lakeside also is the acquarium of the lakes (small version of a sea life centre). At Bowness, there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and the Beatrix Potter attraction. Loads of walks (varying abilities) all over the area. Boat museum at lake Windermere.0 -

We stayed in a B&B at Bowness On Windermere a while ago. It was a 5-10 minute walk from where you catch the Windermere lake trips, was reasonably priced (£50 for a double room), and did a lovely breakfast. Details below:

It is worth stating that I am completely unconnected with this couple. I'm simply a satisfied customer, that enjoyed my stay in their B&B.
It is also worth having a look at the list of attractions at http://www.lakedistrictguesthouse.com/lake-district-attractions/. They seem to ocver most of the bases, and offers a reasonable B&B for £35 pppn.
Good luck, and enjoy your break.0 -
Try Kendal it's a good town and there are good connections to the lakes and it is on the main west cost line (station is called oxenholme)
Good hotel is the Riverside hotel I have stayed in the Newby bridge hotel and it was very good (same owners)
You can get the mountain goat bus that goes every where in the lakes !0 -
This is a nice one and it is in Windermere so its easy to get to

The prettiest village to visit is Grasmere and theres some great walks of all distances around the lake there. If it's your first time then it's all beautiful scenery but take your waterproofs. All the shops sell guides. For the most spectacular scenery from the comfort of your car then if you dare to brave Wrynose and Hard Knott Pass via Langdale you won't be disappointed.0

We love Bowness. The Angel Inn is a lovely place to eat in the evening. Last time we went we stayed at The Howbeck in Windermere. Took 20 minutes to walk to Bowness. Have a lovely time!0

Grasmere is nice, for a great B&B try:

If you want somewhere bigger Keswick is quite pleasant, the nearby valleys of Borrowdale and Newlands are both gorgeous. If you want somewhere smaller the little village of Buttermere is my favourite spot in the Lakes - only a few B&B's, good YHA hostel and 2 hotels too + camping.
All these places can be accessed by public transport in summer, Grasmere and Keswick are on the main (555) bus route so easy to get to all year round.
