    Yes.

Yes, Egg insist that a DD is set up and you are required to select either min or full payment during the application process. Don't worry about your initial selection, as if you change your mind later you can change the DD type online from your secure area.

With £20K spending you will be £110 better off with Amex Platinum than with Egg Money. See Cashback link in the blue box above.
Yes, I know that Mastercard has a little wider acceptanse than Amex ...
EDIT: ... but a combination of Amex and Morgan Stanley (or Egg Money) can make a good team.

I had looked at the Amex card but decided against it for the reasons you state above but thanks for the suggestion.

How about a combination of Egg Money and the GE Money 'Everyday' card?

If £5K of your £20K per annum spend is on food/petrol, that's a very easy £150 cashback. 1% of the remaining £15K with Egg Money will bring your cashback up to a respectable total of £300 per annum.

And best of all...you can do all this with reasonably small credit limits on both cards.

Don't forget Egg Money give you 4% interest on positive balances, may? give you 2% cash back near Xmas and also in my opinion offers you the very handy Money Manager.
