Help needed with graphics card problems

I am trying to install a GeForce 6200v+256mb/ddr2 native agp card into my system.
I previously had a GeForce4 TI AGPX8.
I have uninstalled the old card and installed the new.
Trouble is my PC will not boot up properly. It gets to the stage where I have the XP loading screen, the screen then goes black and then nothing.Everything appears to still be working at this stage, fan drive etc but it will not get to load windows.I can boot up in Safe Mode and I have tried everything I know (which is not much) but too no avail.Someone at work suggested I need a more powerful power supply in my PC,I have a 350w one.
Have I bought the wrong card?Or am I justv doing something wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.

cslogg.

If the comp boots into safe-mode it would suggest to me a software/driver problem.

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Driver-Cleaner.shtml

Download driver cleaner 3.3 (safe-mode with network support) and uninstall ALL ATi/Nvidia entries in add/remove progs.

Reboot back into safe-mode, and run the driver cleaner. Reboot again into normal mode, does it still get stuck?

    Minimum System Requirements
    >> An available AGP 2.0 slot
    >> A minimum 250W power supply is recommended in systems where a number of other internal devices are installed
  • For driver removal:

    I get my drivers from:
    http://www.omegadrivers.net/

When I had a power supply problem my PC started up, but the bios screen never showed, windows never had a chance. That you see something at all suggests power is OK.

Ive had to do some cleaning and reinstallation upon changing gfx card in the past so could well be just that...

I had a similar problem and it turned out that my power supply wasn't up to it. The HD wasn't spinning up to speed, hence BIOS working but no OS.
Does your new card have a seperate power supply, that can be a gotcha as well?

Anyhow, a new (more powerful) power supply did it for me.

    This is now sorted.
It appeared to be a combination of factors, one of which was I needed to update the drivers.

    Thanks

Boot to safe mode remove all drivers for card.

Reboot windows will assign it's own drivers.

When booted-through and on desktop, resize your viewing to the size you like then goto nvidia site and get new drivers, some where released 3 days ago.
