Student Loans Company has new agressive policy this year-

HI
It is that time of year again. I am a sensible organised person, but the SLC always seem to make it very difficult to get the defferment I am due.

1. They took over two weeks to reply to my first defferment application and in their reply they stated my repayment was suspended for 28 days whilst the paper was sorted out. Well, suspended actually means that they will not take the money from your account by direct debit. They do this on the second monthly installment.

2. What they don't tell you is that whilst payment by direct debit is suspended you still owe them the money. I have already had two harrassing phone calls, and a letter. The next letter will cost me £20!!! They have now brought in charges to match the most expensive banks and credit cards.

3. No one will talk to me about my account documentation until I have paid my arrears. What they don't tell you unless you specifically ask is that even when a defferment is granted and back dated the three months, you will not be refunded arrears payments (they caught me out with this last year).

4. I quite happily held on the phone for some 15 minutes today as I had abtained the local rate number and I gladly informed the operator that the call to them had cost me nothing.

5. I was informed that the government has issued harsh new guidelines to them for the @prompt' collections of monies and people will be handed over to a debtcollection agency very quickly- he inferred to me 3 payments missed.

Why should i pay when i do not work as I have three children at home. Why I am being forced into debt and charges when they will not talk to me about my account,. I now have an official 'naughty person' marker on my account as I refused to pay my account. They seem to leave little time from issuing your defferment form to costs being incurred. Many of the delays are on their part. They stated they were sending me a second form to submit on the 6th June- and no one will talk to me because i will not pay the arrears. is it just me?
