Leather sofa delivered not same as showroom model

We recently bought 2 new leather 3 seat sofas from a well-known Department store. We'd looked long and hard before settling on the model. After receiving the 2 sofas (2 weeks apart due to a delivery error) we believe we have been sold a 'cheap copy' of the showroom model, as while the style is the same, the leather seems about half the thickness of the original. Two minor defects have also come to light within the first week of use.
We complained to both the retailer and the supplier but both have referred us to the other party; the supplier has offered to exchange the 2 sofas for ones to the same standard as the showroom model as apparently the source of the sofas has changed within the last 12 months.
We believe the retailer should offer us a refund as the goods supplied are demonstrably different from the showroom model. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Is this not what you are looking for? Sounds good to me. (or am I missing something?)0 -
They only have to offer you a replacement or a refund. As they are offering to replace with the original one whats the problem?0

The supplier has offered to exchange them for ones to the same standard as the showroom model, so they havent merely referred you to the retailer."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Forget the supplier, your contract is with the retailer. As the supplier has admitted to you that the goods are different from those in the retailers showroom, and basically admitted they are of a lower quality then as far as I can see you are perfectly within your rights to reject the goods as they do not conform to the contract.
Can't see how the retailer are even trying to argue - I would personally give them 14 days written notice to refund the money and collect the goods then start small claims court action, don't mess around, you will just end up winding yourself up.
Give them the 14 days, then court - simples.0 -

They only have to offer a replacement or a refund. You cant demand a refund only if they cant supply the goods which the manufacturer has agreed to. As the manufacturer has directly offered a replacement I dont think the OP would have a leg to stand on in court especially as the Manufacturer is bound to liase with the Shop anyway.
Accept the manufacturers offer its what you wanted0 -

Your wrong I'm afraid - goods must conform to contract, the sofa is different from the one ordered, therefore the goods can be rejected and full refund issued.0
