Car hire for OAPs?

Wonder if anyone can help...my dad is trying to hire a car for a holiday in Ireland, but because he's 76 its a nightmare! He can't find a company that will hire because of his age, apparently the max is 75, and even lower elsewhere 
Please could anyone help, because a) he needs one desperately and b) he's very upset at the thought of being too old!!

Hi - on looking at the Hertz Ireland site and checking their age requirements it looks as if your dad can hire from them until age 79 provided he can prove he is still a regular driver and is medically fit to drive in the form of a doctors letter and proof from his insurance company of no accidents in the last five years.What a lot of bureaucracy ! I would suggest checking all this by telephone as well.
