some people say toothpaste but for me a little t-cut and a lens cleaner (the yellow cloth to clean specs) does the job.

It depends upon the type of cd. If it's a commercial cd, then the answer below regarding toothpaste\T-Cut should work. If its a cdr you have burned, then you maybe better of just downloading ISOBuster https://www.isobuster.com then use the 'extract files' option to get the files\folders off the disk. This is for the simple reason that commercial cd's have a 'protective layer' ie: a think layer of plastic applied after burning to protect them. It's this which is often scratched and can take the toothpaste\T-Cut applied to it, cdr on the other hand don't have this layer and are not designed to take having such things applied to it.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

I was told that brasso does the job but im a bit sceptical, anyone else heard about this method?

If you want to be sure pop into one of yur local game or dvd rental companies. Dont go to one like blockbuster or game but an individually owned one as they usually have scratch removing kit and prob do it for free or a few pounds for you.

Yes Brasso and T cut are very similar and will both remove scratches.

Haven't used it on a CD, but it brought my ipod up a treat.
