Laminate floor

Have decided to have my open plan lounge laminated, currently just carpetted. Before I order laminate flooring, what else do I need to order, there is underlay, anything else? ? Would appreciate responses, just want the basic style, nothing fancy.

Also, how much would you charge if I got someone for a day to come and laminate my flooring, price approx, so I dont get ripped off??

Am ordering 18 square metres (this is slightly more than the room size).

Any info would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

    Hi mizzrai

Before you get get your underlay, you have to see what your subfloor is made from. Is it concrete or wooden floor boards? If it's concrete you would also need a damp proof membrane.

Are you planning to remove the skirting boards to put the flooring down and then put the skirting boards back on? If you are leaving them on, you'll need to leave a 10mm expansion gap betweern the board and the floor. This gap will need to be covered with beading trim.

You'll also need to buy an appropriate threshold bar depending on what type of flooring the laminate will meet up against.

As for an approx price, it'll be about £170-£180. Hope that give you a rough idea on what you'll need.

    Thanks Mr_vampy

Lamination will be done on concrete floor.

And also I will leave the skirting on, hence beading for expansion gap, okay got it.

Also, I believe on Wickes.co.uk site, there is an underlay which also acts as damp proof membrance, so will probably purchase that.

    Thanks.

Mr Vampy is right. I would charge about £180 and that would include trimming any doors nedd adjusting etc.

Remember that laminate will not be as warm as carpet

You will need some big thick warm slippers!
  • i had mine done in sept & was best thing i've done so far in the house :) now the whole ground floor is solid & easy to clean!

    You will need:

    Flooring
    Underlay
    Underlay tape
Door bars (to fill gaps between rooms)
beading for around edges (unless u remove skirting)

Carpenter might need a new blade to get a good cut.

We paid our friend £120 a day to fit.
