Taking manual test after passing in an automatic.

Hi,

I passed my driving test nearly ten years ago in an automatic car and have driven one ever since, well mainly sensodrive via Citroens...

I began lessons in a manual car at 17, but tore the cartlidge in my left knee and on the good ole NHS it took 3 yrs for the operation. During this wait the need to get driving and my own independence had taken over so I took my test before the operation in an automatic.

Anyhow, guess that is by the by, I am now pondering whether or not to retake my test in a manual car and wondered if anyone on here would be able to advise what I need to do to go about this?

Would I need to do another theory test even though I have proof of passing one previously? Or do I just need to have a couple of lessons potentially and then go straight for a test?

Thanks.

Apparently if you already have an automatic licence you don't need to re-take your theory test.

    From here.

Looks like you will NOT have to take a Theory Test
From the Direct Gov Site = if you have a full automatic car licence and you want a manual car licence you will not have to take a theory test.

May also be worth having a look at this thread and speaking with your instructor about how it may affect you

  • Thanks, it was a visit today to Citroen dealer to see the new C3 and then find out that it is potentially not going have a sensodrive version, the C2 going out of production, liking the look of the new DS3 but not wanting to go back to a pure automatic and then reading this thread earlier that kind of made me decide to take the plunge and get it passed!

Been meaning to for years, but extra cost has always put me off, but with the imminent (well sort of!) changes and the extra choice I will have car wise, think in long run will be cost effective...
