Birmingham Mailbox

Hi Everyone

Going to Birmingham on the 15th for a weekend (watching Villa on Sunday) and got a deal on a Canmpanile hotel of £1 per night.

My question is someone recommended the Malmaison for a spa and then in the night eat in one of the restaurants behind the Mail Box

Anyone have any recommendations?

To be honest we are looking for a day in the hotel pool, sauna, steam room etc with a bit of spa treatment for the wife......then get changed and chill out for a bit.....then a nice evening meal somewhere

Thanks

The Malmaison doesn't have a pool so you won't be lounging by that one!

The pool at the Marriott is lovely, and the staff as well. My sister in law goes to the Hyatt and the Marriott for treatments all the time. I went years ago since I went to the Hyatt but it's evidently been revamped since then. http://www.birmingham.regency.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp The hotels flag either end of Broad Street. The Hyatt is probably slightly more central to the bars and restaurants of Brindley Place and indeed the Mailbox. There are just loads of restaurants there - it's impossible to choose one for you! There are lots of independents as well as the usual chain restaurants and bars; Pizza Express, Nandos & Cafe Rouge, a chinese (which is rubbish) and you can walk straight down the canal to the Mailbox restaurants as well. I wouldn't even know which to suggest - I've eaten in loads and tend to just wander in, there's not one that really stands out to me. You might want to take a wander along from the Mailbox over to the Hyatt before your spa day and decide on the way up where you'd want to eat later and then book it. It's all very pleasant and modern with many restaurants overlooking the canal so you don't have to spend a fortune to have a pleasant experience.

The restaurant at the Hotel du Vin is superb for the price and they have a champagne bar there :), Purnell's is probably the best restaurant in town, both off Colmore Row (michelin star). I had a dreadful experience at the Malmaison restaurant (fine if you like raw chicken and having them try to force you to pay for other people's bar bills!)

    Not much help I guess!

    Thanks Doozer

i'm thinking this - Villa on the Sunday (of course)
Purnells on the Saturday night (Michelin star an all)
Then just for the spa element - will take a look at the marriot now but i just saw something called Fairlawns for a Spa day - however this is in Walsall (25 mins away)

    what you think?

Erm, not sure I'd choose Walsall as a destination if I had the budget for Purnells, iyswim :o

If you don't need to be central then:

I've not been but they do deals all the time (there's more than just that one)

Wahanda has some deals for the Bannatyne at Brindley Place as well - I've not been there either but they do have reviews on that website.

    Walsall's a no go then - got it :)

That Amala looks lovely - and relatively close to hotel, food, and stadium

How good are you Doozer!! A+++ haha
