Panic Over Lost Passport

Hi would anyone know what the turnaround times will be like now at the Passport Office? Im flying early on 21 st Jan to NY and ive have no end of trouble finally getting my replacementpassport app off! Mainly due to having to get my parents passport numbers who've been on holiday (apparently a new check for any replacement passport) for the last 2 weeks. Starting to panic now! Have just put it through Check and Send last Friday but she advised they might now have it until Thursday!! :-(

PS wish id not used the Check and Send service and paid the extra to go myself in person, apparently too late to override the Check and Sent application and go directly there.

I thought it usually depended on how busy they were at the time?

Check and Send says within 2 weeks but i just wondered if anyone might work for PO and know!

I would doubt they would state two weeks and not deliver, unless theres another postal strike!

Post Office Check & Send service - two weeks

This service is available through certain Post Office branches. Your application should take two weeks from the time the branch or agent accepts the application, not including bank and public holidays.

This is not a guaranteed service and may take longer during busy times.

I did not go through check and send but posted my application (name change) off on Monday 7th December and documents returned 14th December and new passport same day.

Guess it depends if they have a backlog from the Christmas period and what the post are doing with the weather problems

Doubt if the PO would know what happens to them after they've been despateched.

You may get a phone call from the passport office (part of their checking procedure). Use that as an opportunity to beg for speedy action. If things get desperate you could try your MP. He/she might be able to lean on them.

Most people I know who have used this service have had their passport back within a week.

Given you were going away on the 21st why did you not renew it months ago? You can renew 9 months in advance and the time is added to your new passport.
