it could be that the printer/usb modem are fighting for the bandwidth, you could prove this by unplugging the printer.
if you only have 2 usb ports the only way round it will be to buy a usb2 pci card (or a hub, cards are better though).
if there is another set of sockets on the Pc maybe you could plug the modem into that, if its on a different controller it wont have any bandwidth being used.
you can check about the usb hubs in the device manager (in the control panel), heres a screenshot of mine. http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/1864/untitled2iu.jpg0 -
Thanks Fran and Samba
We have tried disconnecting the printer and plugging the modem into a different USB but with no joy.
It is not a wireless connection either.
This has been doing my head in for weeks now. Could it be anything to do with phone lines or am I just clutching at straws?I haven't got one!0 -
Is the modem a Sagem? That appears to be a common problem with Tiscali. If the modem was supplied by them, get them to replace it. More here and here. She might want to borrow another modem from someone just to prove this. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
