Unwanted Body Lotion as Fabric Conditioner. Would It Work?

Not very MSE but I recently 'bit the bullet' and put about 20 tubes/jars/bottles of unwanted hair products on freecycle (you know, when you see something that sounds like it will work miracles but makes your hair limp/frizzy/greasy or whatever) anyway the girl who took them was really pleased, and I just feel relieved that I don't have them cluttering up my bathroom staring at me accusingly every morning......
Edit - the 'no new toiletries challenge' sounds like a great idea!I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.1 -
Not MSE enough - and am so skint, I need to make them work for meeeee ...1

Aww! thanks for your input, folks!
ceebaby......... I'm with you too on the 'find a MS use for them quest'! You can put them in the bath, but you don't get a bubble bath effect. Bit of a waste really and I just have a walk-in shower atm.
Marsden cuckoo...I don't really need (or like) to use body lotion all the time. I have some quality products that I use, but I also have ended up with a lot of cheapies too. Unfortunately this stash continues to grow as it seems to get topped up with gifts throughout the year!

I must say my stash is and was modest compared to what I'm reading on that thread!!
Bizarre though it sounds, using diluted hand lotion as a pre-wash hair conditioner idea is working. I have done this for the 3rd time tonight. It may not be something to do too often, but my hair is very sleek and shiny as a result. It may be worth trying particularly if you have curly/ frizzy /fly-away hair . If you do it twice a week instead of conditioner, it means you are saving about 25% on conditioner!
Re the oil in the product, ruining clothes, I remembered of course that soap contains fat! I have diluted a quarter-full pump action bottle of cheapie Bayliss and Harding hand lotion and have used a little in warm water in the hand basin for washing through my tights and a slip tonight. Rinsed in warm water. Tights have a limited life anyway, so not too worried about ruining them as suggested on the H&B Board. Thinking it may help with static and they smell lovely too!
Will continue to play about with the idea!1 -
I've used body lotion as hand cream and was also thinking of massaging it into my leather footstool and sofa, it is skin after all. I've tried baby oil and serum before (accidentally and it works a treat) Im not sure it would work as a fabric condtioner or if mixing it with water it would split. I think using as a scrub is a great idea which is well worth a try. I hardly use it as a body lotion and its such a waste when I receive it in a gift set. Perhaps try selling it on eBay.1

If it's still in usable condition I'd suggest donating it to a foodbank. Lots of shops still have a trolley for donations you can pop things in. Body lotion and similar items are a luxury few struggling on the breadline can afford it could make aomeones day.pollyIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.6 -

Failing that, if you really don't have any use for it, package it up into gift boxes/packs and offer it to your local charity shop and/or donate it to the next friend/person you know, who is organising a raffle for a good cause.
If you really CBA or don't like the perfume then unopened ones would be welcome in the CS or perhaps the food bank as my local one often asks for toiletries.
Quality brands sell on eBay too.3
