I'd suggest avoiding installing any bloatware from any disk that comes with a router, its not necessary and you can do all setup and connecting from within windows and using a web browser......

Setting up wireless can be problematic for the uninitiated.
I installed a mates wireless router for him that was supplied by Virgin, it worked well with the minimum of fuss, and prompts to set up security for the wireless network.
However I would totally agree with you that the experienced user does not need this.

I've been looking at Belkin routers. Is this a good make? After reading the guide to buying routers in the Argos catalogue they say to get an 'N' router for online gaming. I assume this means the wii as well so I might go for one of them.
"N" is a more recent standard, aka 802.11n.

As one or more of your devices won't support it, you will have to use g, but an N router should have a setting to work in g mode.

Don't worry about this because the speed of a g network is 54Mbps, which is far faster than your broadband connection anyway, so having a faster network gives no benefit when accessing the internet.
