Buying laptop as a gift for relative in USA

Hi, hoping someone can point me in the right direction i live in England and my younger brother who is 15 lives in the USA i want to buy him a laptop but not sure how to go about it if i was to buy a laptop here and send it would a laptop bought here be fully functional over there or could he meet problems? obviousy i'd need to get a US power adapter from somewhere too.
The other thing i thought of was buying one from the US Dell website and have it sent direct to him which would be much safer but i don't think it would accept my billing adress with it being a UK one.
any suggestions what i could do?

Also when i've worked out how to get him a laptop there i need to decide which one to get him, its mostly so we can stay in touch on Skype so obviously one with integrated webcam but he also likes to play online games and i've no idea what sort of system would be best for that.

so any help appreciated :)

    Why not just send him the cash and let him buy one him self :)
  • i could do that but its a funny situation with my family and i don't think my mum would like him accepting a decent sum of money from me so i'd rather send it him as a gift if i can as it's his birthday soon. He also lives bang in the middle of nowhere and the closest big stores are about 2 hours away so i dont want to be causing hassle for my mum having to take him somewhere.

    When I last checked, Dell US accepted PayPal for online orders.

    If you buy one here and send it to the US you get
    * UK keyboard as opposed to US version
    * possible power supply problems (230 V, 50 Hz, vs. 110 V, 60 Hz), but they tend to be universal nowadays
    * certainly the wrong type of power plug
    * possible warranty problems - will the UK one be honoured in the US?
    * possible Customs/import problem - additional tax?
    What you need to do is to get him to specify which laptop he wants, and where he wants to buy it, and for him to get you their email address so you can arrange payment, probably via credit card.

    I've had no trouble over the last five years or so with buying Stuff for someone in the US via Amazon.com on a UK Visa credit card...
