Dear glen5213

Our records indicate that you recently sent an email to or received an email from acrophobic through the eBay email system (for example, you may have sent an email to this member through Ask Seller a Question or received an email from this member through Contact eBay Member).

Sometimes eBay accounts are used to send email solicitations for transactions outside of eBay, or to send unrelated questions in hopes that you will respond so that the other party can obtain your email address. We wanted you to be aware of the potential fraud risk these solicitations pose and encourage you to be cautious about the email you received from this member.

Please keep in mind, sales that take place outside of eBay are not eligible for any eBay or PayPal protective services and you run the risk of losing your money or your item if you complete these transactions. We would encourage you to review the eBay pages related to Fraud Protection at the address provided below for information on steps you can take to ensure that your transactions are successful:

Should you have paid for this item, please write with details through our "Contact Us" form found on the page below:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/contact_inline/index.html

Please select "Report problems with other eBay members > Fraud concerns for buyers > You paid for an item but never received it"

If you have paid for the item through PayPal, you may find the following page useful:

Glen - did it actually have your full name on it? If it did, it is coming from ebay. Have you contacted an ebay member about anything? This doesn't sound like a classic phishing scheme, but does sound like soemthing ebay might send to push the issue of external trading. However, if it comes from ebay it WILL be in your my ebay mail box. Check there first. It it is there, and you haven't traded with anyone outside ebay, just delete and forget about it. If you HAVE traded with anyone - well you know you don't have any protections, whether you answer the email (assuming it's genuine) depends on whether you want to report the other member. The member name acrophobic is a us registered user.

I have in the past said that ebay always put your full name on all communications, but I have had a survey from them recently that didn't. It was in my ebay though.

Doesn't sound like it's relevant. As I said, even if it's genuine (and in my ebay) it's not something you have to do anything about.

Obviously is someone phishing - just picking random ID's out of ebay so that you'll click one of the links in the email. Having said that, I've just checked the links and they appear to be valid ebay addresses, so who knows? This page tells you how to forwrd it http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/confidence/isgw-account-theft-spoof.html

I've had couple of these before because I'd received questions about one of the items I was selling, but instead of actual questions they were offers to buy similar/wholesale items.
I just ignored it as i had no intention of buying a 100 pairs of *fine quality* jeans from China!

If I had all the money I'd spent on drink, I'd spend it on drink.

    :D

I've recieved an email like that in the past. I'd had an argument with NPB and we exchanged a few 'choice' words.
I suspected she reported me for sending malicious emails and ebay send those out without even investigation with the communication was abusive.
Third time lucky on WW I hope :j
