Garmin sat nav problems

Hi, I have a Garmin SatNav Nuvi 200w. I find for direction it is not to be trusted. Recently in Devon it always wanted to send be down 10 miles of roads not wide enough to get a pram through instead of keeping to the main roads. It did not matter what setting you had it on. Fast route or the other route it just wanted you to go down these country lanes at top speed of 10 mph. It wants you to turn left ot right when there is no turns.

All I read about this satnav is good reports but I've nearly thown it out the car window on at least 10 occasions.

Anyone else have trouble with their one or suggest anything.

I've used several similar Nuvi models for ages without a problem.

It's almost certainly faulty if it is not accurately showing your location. Contact Garmin customer services and - assuming it's still under warranty - they will give you an RMA number to return it for repair or replacement.

The only other possibility I can think of is that your car may have a metallised screen (many Peugots and Renaults do) or a heated front screen as found on some Fords. These can make it difficult for all makes of satnav to maintain lock.

Or quite simply it could just need a Firmware or Map update

The only thing missing on all Sat Navs is a " common sense " feature.

It is now over the warranty (just). I have now done the updates on it like you recommended.
Recently I took it to Hampton court in London from Sussex. To my surprise it got me there without problem only going through one main town and keeping to all the major roads. On the way back and me now trusting it again, it decided to take me through 5 large town in rush hour and then out into the country, off all the main roads and then it got confused and was saying recalculate ever 5 minutes when there wasn't even road I could have missed. I could have done it better with my AA map but it got me so lost in the dark that I didn't know if I'd see my home again.

I'll give it a couple more chance after this update and than it's a TOMTOM.

    Cheers.
