Bought a home and now need some advice

Hello there,
We just bought a home and now planning to get some furniture and washing machines (bed, sofa set and washing m/c being the priority)
1) I was wondering if people can advice share their experiences about buying sofa (corner group) from DFS and a 3+2 from Harveys. We are not sure who sells the best quality and who is more reliable etc.
2) In terms of washing m/c - not sure what brand should I trust (again looking for people to advice what co. is best/reliable).
3) I looked at a Hoover (washer dryer) currently at £329 and though it would be a good deal but the comet website has -ve reviews in relation to this model breaking down etc. here is the link - http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/529230/HOOVER-VHW654D/tab/reviews Currys has the same mc/ at same price but out of stock - it has reevo reviews and they have no mention of the m/c breakdown so not sure if it's just comet stock ..
4) For washing m/c we have a budget of approx £ 200-230 and we can easily get Beko/Candy for this amount - not sure if these co. are reliable or have good quality
5) Our home does not have an alarm system - please let me know if there are any good ones that could be installed not too exp but decent ones.
Thanks a ton for your help guys

comet and currys are ok on prices but their customer service is dire. god help you if anything goes wrong.
try john lewis for decent CS. warranty periods are longer too.
DFS is just over priced tat IMO.
if any retailer tries to hard sell you a warranty, walk away. that includes dfs/comet/currys.Get some gorm.0 -
Avoid Currys, Comet, use John Lewis as suggested.
Avoid DFS and any of the other furniture sheds, use a local manufacturer if possible.0 -

Yellow Pages? Local press etc.
I am not anywhere near Glasgow, but I found a local manufacturer that allowed me to actually see my suite being made, and allowed a full inspection before payment, and was still far cheaper than the likes of DFS.0 -
Have a look on the comet clearance website. We picked up a huge fridge for about £150 cheaper that new. Fridge was brand new wrapped with a slight mark on the side out of sight.FreePremiershipOnline.com - your guide to free streaming football0

We have a Bosch washing machine and dishwasher, never had a problem and are always rated quite highly by Which? magazine.
I also second others opinions on John Lewis - we got our fridge freezer from there, very good service and value.
You could check out ukwhitegoods website for information and advice on buying appliances.0 -
For beds i would have a look on ebay. We picked up a brand new form pocket sprung mattress for £120 and a brand new kingsize pine bed for the same. Best purchase we made when buying stuff for our flat!FreePremiershipOnline.com - your guide to free streaming football0

You haven't asked for this advice but given this is MSE I'm going to give it anyway!
Don't fall prey to "buy now pay later" or other credit deals just to furnish your new house with shiny new goods. You can pick up some really nice sofas on ebay and in second hand stores and you might find that your tastes and thoughts change once you've lived in the house for a while..Piglet

quick question - is John Lewis CS good for JL products or if I buy Whirlpool, Bosch Washing m/c from them then will they not direct me the specific co. contact nos? Sorry I dont really know how the after sales / repairs etc work.. will JL have anything to do with any repair or will it be the co. specific
is tesco direct any good for buying wash m/c?0 -

John Lewis will deal with any repair issues themselves.
Avoid Tesco for the same reasons as Currys/Comet.0
