M/soft Word 2007 I want to type text in margin

I'm typing a document using automatic numbering for paragraphs and want to add the odd comment in the left hand margin against a few of the paragraphs. I want to keep the document's margins intact. In older versions of Word there used to be a facility for "margin release" using the keyboard (I think) where you could temporarily release the margin to insert text and then revert back.
Any Word afficianados out there who could help please?
I've done a thorough M/soft search and on here but no luck.

In Word 2003 I know you can put a Text Box (on the Drawing toolbar) within the confines of the margin.
Worth a try?
Edit - Or you can add a comment in the margin

Bluboy, thanks for the tip but not want I'm looking for. I want to put a comment in left, not right margin, and I don't want the main body of text highlighted .fitzroy0

Did you try the Word 2007 Text Box option? -

Your last suggestion has helped - thanks. I don't seem able to delete the box around the text - did follow instructions so don't know what I'm doing wrong. But have managed to make the box smaller. Great step forward though - at least I've managed to get a comment in the left margin albeit with a box around it. When I come to print it, it looks tricky cos have to follow load of instructions to print doc that has text boxes.
I don't think Word 2007 is "secretary" friendly. It may be great for people who want to use all the other features but for straightfoward typing etc I much prefer 2003 version.
Thanks a lot for your help.fitzroy0 -
Right click the text box and select 'format text box'..... you can select the line colour from there, just select 'no line'Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!
