Any way round a block on websites at work?

I work really long hours, and amout of the house for over 13 hours each day. I like to get stuff on eBay, but our work has a block on it. Now, I don;t want to waste work time, but I always work through my lunch break, get in early, leave late and even do stuff over weekends, and I don;t see why I shouldn;t quickly bid on something I have searched for here at home, which ends in work time.

So, is there any way of accessing blocked sites? I do use Auctionstealer but sometimes I;d like to just bid normally.

Any ideas peeps?

In my work they have an internet room which gives access to ebay as the blocked access to ebay on the normal PC's presumably as people where always going on it.

You could get round it sometimes by accessing the site via a search engine rather going directly to the site but not sure if it still works in my work but maybe worth a try for you

No, it seems to block that. I thought there were sites you could use to access blocked sites?

It seems mad to block us cos we really do work extremely hard and have no life at all in the week because of all the work we have to do. We can get on hotmail and MSE :D

there is a thread on here, page 1 or two with someone asking that, try portable firefox if you have a memory stick that sometimes works, or something like hidemyass.com(i think) these normally get you on)

most site blocking systems use name server block you can usually bypass them by browsing to ip addreses ebay.co.uk is http://66.135.192.58 but it doesnt work. you can do it for lots of other sites though.

runn a command window and type ping https://www.ebay.co.uk or whatever site your looking for and then type the ip address in the address bar.

you could try proxy sites too but im not sure about entering usernames and passwords on them

most big companies block all the proxy sites too

ours use software to monitor a continual top 10 of accessed sites, then use it to review the access, things get tighter all the time

    Hi

At work nothing is private, especially when it comes to IT, chances are that you are monitored in some way, whereby URLs you visit are recorded and also time spent aswell. If there are blocks on eBay it is because the business deems it not to be a suitable site. Check out your internet usage policy at work, don't end up with a disciplinery. A few people where I work have been sacked for inappropriate use of the internet, don't try and go under the wire to get to a blocked site, I am sure it will only lead to trouble.
