Hi,

I jusrt bought a new property and need some advice please - There is a tree in my Garden which is approx 25 metres high. Is it possible to remove? and will I need to get an permission from City Council?

Thanks
MS

  • You would need to find out if the tree was subject to a protection order, because if it is you cant touch it.
  • If you live in a conservation area you need to apply & get permission to touch it.

Did any TPO get mentioned when you bought it?

Get it done by a professional and not someone who'll let is knock your house down. If it's a TPO tree and you ask the council they will make you feel bad for wanting to cut it down.
However TPO is only of any use if someone gets to it before you've finished cutting it down. Not sure what the penalties are - but depends how much you want rid of it.
Don't ask neighbours who might be quite fond of the tree and be alerted to the fact you want rid.

    Thanks for the replies.

I rang Bham City Council and they confirmed that the trees are not protected so can go ahead and remove them. Does anyone know if removal is done by Council or I have to find someone?

Don't know who does it but keep quiet amongst your neighbours about your plan. TPOs can be put in place very very quickly.
I'm an ARB-registered RIBA-chartered architect. However, no advice given over the internet can be truly relied upon since the person giving the advice hasn't actually got enough information to give it with confidence. Go and pay someone!
