Graphics card dying ???

I was playing Oblivion last night and after about 30 mins the graphics went a bit odd and i got a BSOD .

At first i thought the card must have just overheated due to dust in the heatsink etc, but when i tried to start up windows normally i get the BSOD seconds after windows has booted up.

What i can`t work out is on the boot screens i get a number of verticle black lines down the screen , but if i start it in safe mode it all looks o.k.

I am in normal mode now but with the NVidia drivers uninstalled.

When windows installs it`s own drivers the BSOD is back, this is in windows 7 ,but also my windows xp on another partition will crash.

I`m going to download the latest NVidia driver and hope it works but i can`t see it as both versions of windows have started crashing.

That does look suspect I have to admit.

I`ve downloaded the latest driver, but can`t install them, windows needs to reboot before it can start the instalation, windows reboots and promptly crashes.

I would be sure that it is a faulty card ,but it works fine in safe mode???

Maybe your PC updated to the latest drivers and it has issues only with the latest ones? Have you tried installing an older set of drivers to see if the same thing happens?

if you completly run out of ideas you could try a firmware reflash....

not recommended if you've still less intrusive things to try and capable in itself of breaking your card (esp if its not 100% to begin with)

    Tried dusting the heatsink yet?
Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.

Windows updates? Although given that it is Windows 7, these are all probably implemented.

just installed the latest nvidia drivers and now all i get is a black screen,i`m not even good enough for a blue screen now!!

It is about 3 years old now so it`s not a new card , all i can do now is try it in a different machine to confirm the worst i think...
